Wrexham is proud to announce that we have officially achieved World Health Organisation (WHO) Age Friendly Community status, recognising our commitment to making the county a great place to grow older.

Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member for Adult Social Care said: “This major achievement reflects true collaboration between Wrexham Council, local organisations, key individuals, volunteers, community groups, and the public. It has been shaped by the collective effort, passion, and insight of people across the county who share a commitment to supporting positive ageing.”

The achievement was celebrated at the Ageing Well Wrexham launch event held at Tŷ Pawb on 12 February, which brought together 54 organisations showcasing the extensive support available to older people across the county.

The event was opened by the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, who praised Wrexham’s dedication to creating inclusive, supportive environments for people of all ages. The visit marked an important moment in celebrating this international recognition.

As part of our ongoing work, we are proud to use the name Ageing Well Wrexham because ageing is something everyone experiences, and we all want to age well. The name reflects our belief that ageing should be positive, supported, and celebrated.

Achieving WHO Age Friendly Community status is a significant milestone for Wrexham and reflects the hard work of local organisations, residents, and community partners who are committed to helping people stay active, independent, and connected as they age.
