Wrexham Council’s continued investment in local bus services is helping to support increased passenger numbers and improve access to public transport across the county borough.
Since 2023, Wrexham Council has approved £650,000 of funding to support additional local bus services.
The investment has helped deliver new routes and extended evening services, with the total number of passengers using these additional services now exceeding 163,000.
The figures build on the recent announcement that opening hours at Wrexham Bus Station are planned to be extended following continued growth in bus use and ongoing investment in local transport services.
Security cover at the bus station is due to be extended from 6pm to 10pm from Monday 18 May.
The additional investment will also be used to refresh and renew key bus stop infrastructure, including bus stop flags and bus shelters across the County Borough.
Councillor David A Bithell, Lead member for Strategic Transport said “We have worked hard over recent years to support and improve local bus services in Wrexham, and it’s encouraging to see that this investment is being used by passengers.”
“More than 163,000 passenger journeys have now been made on the additional services, which shows the importance of providing reliable and accessible public transport for our communities.”
Further work is also taking place on the future of bus services in Wrexham and across North Wales.
Transport for Wales is currently working with local authorities to develop a proposed Base Network, which will set out what future bus routes could look like. Public consultation is expected to take place in Wrexham during June and July.
Further partnership work will also continue to support improvements to local bus services and encourage greater use of public transport across Wrexham.
