On Wednesday 9 September, we will be raising the 999 flag at the Guildhall as we observe the annual Emergency Services Day.

999 Day promotes the dedicated and vital work of our emergency services. It is a chance to promote the responsible use of these services and to teach the public basic lifesaving skills.

The day is a great opportunity for people to learn more about career and volunteering opportunities they can follow in the various sectors. Voluntary roles play a core part in keeping Britain safe and are an essential part of the emergency services.

NHS Community Responders, St John’s Ambulance, RNLI, Search and Rescue and Coastguards, Retained Firefighters and Special Constables are all volunteering roles that make a huge difference.

We take a moment each year to reflect and give thanks to the 999 heroes past and present who continue to serve communities both here in Wrexham and across the UK.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Mark Pritchard said, “May I extend sincere thanks on behalf of myself and everyone in Wrexham to those incredibly brave individuals who serve, or have served, with such dedication and passion in the emergency services.

“Both here in Wrexham and across the country, you ensure our safety every single day and for that, we are indebted to you all.”

Chief Executive, Alwyn Jones, added, “It’s very important that we all take a moment on September 9 to reflect and take stock of how important the emergency services are. We rely on these people so much in times of need and 999 Day is the perfect way to show those workers just how much we admire, respect and value them.

“You never know when a 999 situation might happen but we are blessed to have the heroes ready and waiting to help us should that arise and I thank you all for your crucial work.”
