Wrexham is celebrating after achieving Gold and being crowned winner of the Small City & City category at the prestigious RHS Britain in Bloom Finals 2026.
The results were announced at an awards ceremony in Rochdale on October 20, recognising the hard work and dedication of Wrexham Council teams, community organisations and volunteers who help make Wrexham a greener, cleaner and more welcoming place.
The achievement follows Wrexham’s recent success at Wales in Bloom, where the county borough also secured Gold in the City category.
During their visit in August, Britain in Bloom judges toured a number of locations across the county borough, showcasing the wide range of horticultural, environmental and community projects taking place throughout Wrexham.
Their route included Ty Mawr Country Park, Pen-y-cae Orchard, Pentrebychan Nursery and Erlas Walled Garden, before visiting the city centre to see its colourful floral displays.
Along the way, judges learned about the important role played by volunteers and trainees, as well as environmental initiatives including the WRECSAM bug hotel, rainwater harvesting systems, recycling and composting projects.
The visit also highlighted the work taking place throughout the year to improve green spaces, encourage biodiversity and create attractive surroundings for residents and visitors.
Peter Barton-Price, Chairman of Wales in Bloom said, “It gives me enormous pleasure, on behalf of Wales in Bloom, to offer our heartfelt congratulations to Wrexham in Bloom on being named the Overall UK City Category Winner 2026 with a Gold.
This is a truly outstanding achievement and one that reflects the visionary, collaborative approach by the Officers, Elected Members and volunteers who all work tirelessly to make Wrexham a greener, cleaner and more welcoming place for all.
Winning the Overall UK Britain in Bloom City Category 2026 is a remarkable accomplishment and a recognition of the exceptional standards that Wrexham continues to achieve. They should all be immensely proud of what they have accomplished together.
We celebrate this success with them, they truly represent the best of Wales and we look forward to seeing Wrexham continue to flourish in the years ahead.”
There was further success for Wrexham Litter Pickers, with two volunteers receiving an RHS Community Champion Discretionary Award.
The individual awards recognise their outstanding contributions and reflect the wider dedication of Wrexham Litter Pickers volunteers, who regularly give their time to help keep communities clean and welcoming.
Councillor Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism said, “Winning Gold and being named winner of the City & Small City category at Britain in Bloom is a fantastic achievement for Wrexham and something we can all be incredibly proud of.
This national recognition highlights the pride we take in our county borough and the tremendous effort that goes into making Wrexham an attractive and welcoming place for residents and visitors.
It’s very pleasing to see our community volunteers recognised alongside this success, and I’d like to congratulate everyone who has played a part in achieving an excellent result.”
Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment said, “This award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication shown by our council teams, community groups and volunteers throughout the year.
Britain in Bloom is about much more than floral displays. It recognises the work being done to protect our environment, encourage biodiversity and improve the green spaces that our communities enjoy.
From our environmental projects to the fantastic efforts of Wrexham Litter Pickers, everyone involved has contributed to this success, and I’d like to thank them for their continued commitment.
The latest achievement adds to Wrexham’s growing success in both regional and national competitions, recognising the collective efforts of those working to improve the county borough’s environment for everyone.
