Wrexham County Borough Council are set to receive a share of £20m from the Wrexham and Flintshire Investment Zone (IZ), to enhance bus services across Wrexham.

Funded by the Welsh and UK Governments, the IZ Bus Transformation Programme will improve local bus services, helping people access employment and skills development opportunities at key destinations, such as Wrexham Industrial Estate and Llay Industrial Estate.

Proposed improvements

The proposed improvements are:

  • More buses to and from Wrexham Industrial Estate
  • New early morning bus journeys to improve connections with services travelling to Wrexham Industrial Estate
  • Better cross-city bus routes, so passengers can travel to Wrexham Industrial Estate without changing buses in the city centre
  • Extension of some bus services to serve Llay Industrial Estate.

Benefits to existing / future employees and businesses

Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member with responsibility for Strategic Transport said “The funding received is very welcome to introduce new and improved bus services to connect both employment and access to work.

“For residents of Wrexham County Borough, this will bring the direct benefits of better access to jobs, supporting shift workers, connections between more communities; and easier travel access across the region overall.

“For local businesses, we also know that these enhancements will also mean a wider workforce catchment, allowing for more business growth, reduced congestion and parking; as well as encouraging more sustainable travel within the workforce.”

  • Llay Industrial Estate
  • Wrexham University

  • Coleg Cambria – Yale

IZ Employee travel survey

The responses to the survey will be used to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of introducing the bus service enhancements.

The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

The prize draw closes on 13 December 2026, and the winner will be drawn and notified no later than 15 December 2026.
