The speed limit on a stretch of road outside Overton, near Wrexham, could be reduced following concerns about safety.
A sharp bend on the A528 from Overton to Ellesmere has seen a number of traffic accidents, and local councillor John McCusker has been campaigning for the limit to be reduced from 50mph to 30mph in a bid to make the road safer.
Councillor McCusker recently met with Councillor David A Bithell, Deputy Leader and Lead Member with responsibility for strategic transport, along with highways officers from Wrexham Council to look at the stretch of road.
Following the meeting, it was agreed that a statutory consultation would be undertaken with a view to reducing the speed limit.
More signage would also be added along the route.
Councillor McCusker said: “Accidents along this stretch of the A528 are not uncommon, and the bend in the road is very sharp.
“Lowering the limit would hopefully reduce the likelihood of accidents in the future, and I know that many local residents would like to see a 30mph speed limit introduced.”
Councillor Bithell said: “The meeting took place following several accidents along this stretch of road and we’ve agreed in principal to reduce the speed limit from 50mph to 30mph subject to statutory consultation.”
