Wrexham Council is reviewing proposals for Acton Resource Centre after listening to feedback from residents, councillors and community groups.
The council has been gathering feedback on plans to relocate its day care service for people with complex needs from the Cunliffe Centre in Rhosddu to Acton Resource Centre.
However, the council is allowing further engagement and options to be explored – this includes the potential to extend the building so it can be used for both day services and by community groups.
Councillor Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council, said: “Finding a new and suitable venue for our day service remains a priority. The Cunliffe Centre has seen better days and we need an improved facility to support people with complex needs.”
A further period of engagement will now take place with local councillors, community groups who use Acton Resource Centre, and families who rely on the day service provided by social care.
Councillor Pritchard added: “One of the possibilities we want to explore is the option to extend the building to create more space – making the facility available for community use alongside the day service.
“Extending the building would obviously cost money, but we will work tirelessly to find that funding if the idea is viable.”
Details of when and how local people, groups, councillors and service-users can share more feedback will be announced shortly.
In the meantime, groups that use the resource centre have been informed that any previous notice periods have been extended by two months, allowing them to continue using the site until at least August 1 (2026).
Councillor Pritchard said: “I’d like to thank everyone who’s provided feedback so far – their views are important and as a council we do listen and we’re not afraid to look at things again.
“We want a solution that can meet the needs of the users of Acton Resource Centre and provide modern adult day services – creating a sustainable long-term future for this community asset.”
