    What is Snapchat?

Snapchat is very visual. It’s kind of the opposite to a lot of other social media platforms, in that it uses pictures with some words sprinkled on top (instead of the other way round).

It’s a mobile only app and it’s been growing in popularity year on year since it was launched in 2011.

It is one of the largest growing social media platforms in the world and with 200 million snaps sent a day and has some of the most active web users online.

You can follow and add your friends and send messages accompanied by photos, video and text with loads of features and filters to keep you entertained.

    How to Add Us

Add our username ‘WrexhamCouncil’ – it couldn’t be simpler! You can also add our ‘snapcode’ and instantly gain access to some great daily content.

And make sure you share it with your friends and colleagues so they don’t miss a thing either.

If you haven’t got Snapchat yet and want to give it a try, download the app from Google Play or the App Store.

  • Wrexham Iceman Stuns Crowd

    Wrexham Iceman Stuns Crowd

Wrexham resident and professional carver Simon O’Rourke made history last week, becoming the first person ever to carve ice in the town during an event hit at Wrexham Museum.

The talented artist carved a beautiful sculpture of penguins in front of a mesmerised audience during one of the biggest nights of the year for the museum.

“It’s a great little event and a really good idea. I don’t think ice carving has been seen in Wrexham before, so it’s nice to bring something a bit new!” said Simon.

“It’s really special. I’m really pleased to be able to bring something here that hasn’t been seen before. I think it’s really nice to be part of that and to be making a piece of history.”

With a decade of experience in the industry, Simon has been making a huge impact with his art in the region and much further beyond worldwide, but he has always come home to Wrexham.

“Wood carving is my background as a career. I started life as an illustration graduate from Glyndwr, I then went into tree surgery and learnt how to use the chainsaw and then saw somebody carving for the first time…and ended up actually trying it out and I really enjoyed it.

“It’s been ten years since I started as a sculptor, and it’s been brilliant.

“My workshop is in Rossett and I’ve done a lot of work in the Plassey. I’m artist-in-residence in Erddig this year and next year, so it’s great to show people that it is possible be a full-time artist and make a living from doing something you love”.

The event attracted huge crowds from all over the region and was supported my numerous local businesses and sponsored by the famous Wrexham Lager, who were pouring pints in their own van on the court of the building.

With the exhibitions and café open to the public and plenty of activities for both young and old to enjoy, many people who often don’t get the chance got to enjoy the wonders the museum has to offer – including the latest superhero exhibits.

The museum is open all year round with plenty of new features to look out for including ‘the heat of battle’ which runs until January 6, 2018.

  • Victorian Market a roaring success

    Victorian Market a roaring success

Once again Wrexham has been blown away by a fantastic Victorian Christmas market which is currently being held at St Gilles’ this afternoon.

Starting at noon today and running through until this evening, the annual event has grown in both size and popularity year on year and this time around it’s even bigger and better than before.

Over 100 stalls are set-up stretching across St Gilles and Queen’s Square and there’s been plenty of visitors browsing for some great bargains to add to their Christmas shopping. You can pick yourself up some wonderful items with wine, sweets and treats all appearing in a wide variety. This is a great way to build on last year’s successful market (video below) which attracted 15,000 people.

Not only will you have the chance to pick up some great gifts for your loved ones, but all whilst you make your way around you will be entertained throughout by a brass band and barrel organist whilst the little ones will be enthralled by our carousel and Punch and Judy show – there really is something for everyone.

“What better way to get into the wonderful Christmas spirit than to drop by and enjoy the variety of things on offer at the Victorian Market” said councilor Terry Evans, who has already been among the festive fun this afternoon.

“It’s brilliant to see the people of Wrexham coming out to support this great event, mixing together and embracing the season of good will.

“The Christmas season always brings a boost to the town and events like this aren’t just a community boost, but also benefit the local economy which can only be a good thing”.

Haven’t had the chance to make it down yet? The market and entertainment will be open until 8pm tonight, so come on down!
