This Carers’ Rights Day, join us in celebrating the unsung heroes of our community.
On Friday November 21, Ty Pawb will host a powerful and inspiring Carers Rights Day conference, bringing together professionals, unpaid carers, and community voices under the theme: Recognising, Supporting, and Empowering Carers.
Running from 10am to 12.30pm, this free event will spotlight the vital contributions of unpaid carers and provide practical guidance on accessing support and knowing their rights.
The conference will give you the chance to hear from people who can provide information on financial help, and help coping with illness such dementia. You will also be able to meet young carers and hear the stories of others. Here is a full list of what you will hear about on the day:
Welcome address
Alison Reeve, Senior Head of Service / Interim Chief Officer (Adults), Adult Social Care, Wrexham, will open the event with a tribute to the dedication and resilience of carers across the region.
Understanding carers’ benefits
The Wrexham Council welfare rights team will demystify key benefits including Carers Allowance, Pension Credit, Universal Credit, and Council Tax discounts – ensuring carers know how to maximise their entitlements.
Lived experience: young and parent carers
Lisa and Maisie from WCD Young Carers will share their personal journeys, highlighting the rights of young carers and advocating for greater recognition in schools and healthcare settings.
Voices of unpaid carers
The memories group will present a moving collection of stories from unpaid carers – partners, siblings, and friends – exploring the emotional and physical toll of caring and the creative ways carers build resilience.
Making the numbers count
Sarah Bartlett (Regional Partnership Board) and Janine Edwards (Population Needs Assessment Project) will unpack the latest North Wales carers data, revealing trends and inviting attendees to contribute their lived experiences to future assessments.
Carers needs assessments and carers rights
NEWCIS will provide an essential overview of carers assessments and the legal rights of unpaid carers.
Supporting dementia and memory loss
The North Wales Memory Support Pathway team will outline services available for people living with dementia and their carers, including advocacy, benefits support, and hospital navigation.
Closing remarks
Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, will conclude the event with reflections on the importance of continued support and recognition for carers.
