At this morning’s Executive Board members agreed to consult on their plans to introduce car parking charges for Blue Badge Holders with a one hour additional time concession.
The proposals were part of the Difficult Decisions consultation held at the end of last year and respondents were broadly supportive of the proposal.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “These are very austere times for local government and we do not make these decisions lightly. The consultation will begin at the end of January for one month and I would encourage anyone affected to take part.”
There are only plans to charge for council run car parks, other parking benefits allowed to Blue Badge holders are not affected. These are:
Exemption from on-street limited waiting parking bay restrictions such as those found on Chester Street, Town Hill and Egerton Street.
Parking on single/double yellow lines up to 3 hours.
Access to unrestricted parking provision on High Street, Wrexham
Access to town centre Monday to Friday up to 11.30am and after 5pm
Access to the town centre on Saturday to 09.30am and after 5pm
Access to the town centre on Sundays up to 13.00pm and after 5pm
A further consultation will also be held on the introduction of parking charges at Alyn Waters, Ty Mawr and Nant Mill.
The proposals are for a daily charge of £1 from 3 April and a £50 season ticket at a cost of £50 per year.
