Last month, Wrexham celebrated Wales Ambassador Week with a certificate presentation from the Mayor of Wrexham to its Gold Ambassadors.
Wales Ambassador Week (November 18-22) highlights the Wales Ambassador scheme and the diverse range of people who’ve benefitted from becoming Ambassadors.
The Wrexham scheme, which launched 12 months ago, is a free online learning course, with 10 modules ranging from attractions, history and heritage, to food and drink and sport. On completion, Ambassadors gain bronze, silver and gold recognition.
Participants include those working in the tourism industry, or any public facing role, but also those with an interest in their local area and learning more about Wrexham. There are also courses that cover other areas of North Wales.
Wrexham’s current Gold Ambassadors were celebrated with a presentation event at Xplore!, where the Mayor of Wrexham Cllr Beryl Blackmore awarded them with their certificates.
Wrexham Council’s Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism, Councillor Nigel Williams, also attended the event at Xplore!
He said: “I’d like to thank the officers involved in the Wrexham Ambassador Scheme for their hard work in making it such a success.
“Also, many thanks to those Ambassadors who have taken the time to complete the scheme to Gold level – I hope they have enjoyed it and taken some valuable learning from it.
“I’d encourage anyone living or working in Wrexham, or with an interest in the area, to sign up and take part.”
Gold Ambassador, Angharad Jarvis, Travel and Tourism Lecturer at Coleg Cambria said of the Ambassador scheme: “The Wrexham Ambassador scheme has proven to be an outstanding, interactive initiative, enriching participants’ knowledge of the local area and fostering a sense of pride and advocacy.
“This program has not only enhanced my own understanding of Wrexham, where I live, teach, and work, but it has also been an inspiring journey for one of my learners, whom I encouraged to complete this course.
“The experience has empowered them to promote local attractions, engage with local businesses, and effectively communicate the history and heritage of Wrexham.
“Building on this success, the Wrexham Ambassador scheme is now being rolled out to current Level 3 Food and Beverage learners at Coleg Cambria.
“This expansion offers students an invaluable opportunity to gain deeper insights into the community they serve, equipping them to become advocates for Wrexham’s unique offerings and rich cultural tapestry.”
It’s also proving useful to Wrexham business owners, with Claire Wright of the award winning To^st Café and Deli on Charles St praising the scheme.
She said: “After completing the Bronze Ambassador Course and learning so much about the Wrexham area that I didn’t know about, I decided to complete the Silver and then Gold Ambassador Course.
“I would recommend anyone who has a business in Wrexham welcoming visitors to the area to complete the course, as I have been able to pass on what I have learnt onto our customers and recommend places for them to visit.”
