Darganfod Science Festival takes place on 6 and 7 August and this year there’s an exciting line up of activities for the whole family to take part in and enjoy.

Xplore! Science Discovery Centre Saturday

Make your own Paint Saturday and Sunday – 10am – 4pm. Enjoy this interactive workshop to learn about the materials and processes for making Watercolour paint like the old masters! Artist Wendy Connelly demonstrates some of the scientific principles found in paint making. Using everyday household ingredients come and explore how you can make your own paint.

Particle Smashing Show Saturday – 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. In this massively interactive show, you will learn how to control the systems of the LHC using your own phones/smart devices (please bring them). You are in charge. You are the scientists. The future of science depends on you! All thanks to Principality Building Society.

British Computer Society EV3 robots Saturday and Sunday– 10am – 4pm. You can help shape our future: Learn about robots and see how they are programmed using Lego EV3’s. It’s an interactive workshop that is perfect for everyone to get involved with. All thanks to Principality Building Society.

Virtual Driving Simulator Saturday and Sunday 9.30am – 11am, 12.30pm – 2pm and 3.30pm to 5pm. Have you ever wanted to drive an HGV? Ever watched a combine harvester go up and down a field and thought that looks like fun? Well, now you can. Come and try out some professional grade simulators, Funded by Communities for Work it’s a chance to get behind the wheel of some BIG vehicles. All thanks to Gatewen training.

Xplore! Science Discovery Centre Sunday

The Platinum Show – 11am, 1pm and 3pm. We’ve all been hearing a lot of talk about platinum this year – but what is it? In this family science show, you’ll discover everything you didn’t know you didn’t know about platinum. From fuelling the future to keeping the air clean, there’s more to this metal than meets the eye. All thanks to Lyan Packaging.

Tŷ Pawb Saturday

Digging Deep Saturday and Sunday – 10am – 1.30pm. Have you ever wondered what is going on beneath your feet? What kind of forces could make the Himalayas? How do we know how tall a dinosaur is? We will be digging deep for the answers to these questions in our brand-new show all about the world of Geology!

G2G Lego Animation Saturday and Sunday – 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm. To celebrate the festival bringing together Science, Technology, Math’s and the Arts, G2G will be giving you the chance to build your own set and characters to make a short, animated film.

You will also have the opportunity to use the Lego to build whatever your imagination can create.

The NONsense Show Saturday– 12 noon – 3.30pm. Think you see with your eyes and taste with your tongue? Ever wondered why you get dizzy when you spin? How many senses do you even have? Prepare to be amazed and confounded by illusions in this demo-packed exploration of your amazing brain, as we discover your senses aren’t quite as simple as they seem

MakeCode: Arcade games Saturday – 11.00am and 14.30pm. Come and create your very own Arcade game with Technocamps! Be inspired by Asteroids, Pacman, Galaga and others in this interactive workshop.

TinkerCAD: 3D Modelling  Saturday– 10.00am and 13.30pm. The future of design is Computer Aided, come and have a go with Technocamps. In this interactive workshop design your own weird and wonderful object.

Makey Makey: Games Controllers from rubbish Saturday – 12.30pm and 16:00pm. If you want to play games you need some kind of controller. In this workshop though what can we really use as a controller?  In this interactive workshop come and create your very own controller from household items.

Tŷ Pawb Sunday

Exploding Custard Show Sunday – 11.30am – 1.30pm. Back by popular demand award-winning science communicator Ian Russell’s  ‘Exploding Custard’ science-show for all ages is a spectacular, lively, and light-hearted sharing of more experiments than you’ll be able to remember.

Star Dome Show Sunday – All day. Come and join us in our brand new inflatable planetarium as we travel across the universe, stopping off at the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars along the way! It’s a chance to see the wonders of the night sky during the Day! All thanks to Magellan Aerospace.

Yellow and Blue Saturday

Slime Making Saturday and Sunday – 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm. Get stuck in an create some non-newtonian fluids! These slimes are some of the strangest materials on the planet! Pick your colour, smell and texture and then take home your slimey creation. All thanks to Principality Building Society.

Henblas Street Saturday

Bubble Fun Saturday and Sunday – 12 noon and 3pm. One of the most amazing structures on earth can be made with nothing more complicated than soapy water and a bit of a breeze. Come and join us on Henblas Street for some bubble fun. Try and make the biggest bubble possible! All thanks to Principality Building Society.
