Last year, plans to demolish the Greenacres building on Rhosddu Road was approved by Wrexham Council’s Executive Board.
Previously an Office Accommodation Review found the building was underutilised, therefore Social Care staff that were previously based at Greenacres have relocated to a permanent office base in the City Centre, leaving the buildings empty and the site ready for redevelopment.
Now the site is ready to start the demolition process, which will start in November.
Due to the proximity to the city centre, this site is ideal for a social housing scheme.
The redevelopment will consist of around 58 new homes – which will be one of the Council’s largest social housing development projects to date.
This reaffirms the dedication to delivering affordable housing for future contract holders.
The demolition will happen in due course. Following this, there will be a tender process for a development partner to design and build the new homes, subject to planning permission.
Councillor David A Bithell, Leader Member for Housing and Climate Change said, “This represents one of the largest social housing redevelopments in a prime location, offering a unique opportunity to build high-quality homes.
“It stands as a clear testament to our commitment to delivering affordable housing. The demolition allows us to plan for the next stage of the process.”
