Wrexham businesses and residents are invited to learn more about upcoming active travel scheme works in the city centre.

Roadworks will be in place from January 5 (2026) and are likely to continue in phases until the early summer.

The scheme will see an improved walking and cycling route constructed between the city centre’s pedestrianised area at Hope Street, near Waterstones, and the Wrexham General railway station.

The scheme was part of a public consultation in the summer of 2023. Since then, changes to the plans have been made following feedback from the public as well as public bodies.

Public drop-in sessions will be held in early December, where people can see drawings for the active travel route between the railway station and the city centre.

The area will also benefit from new landscaping and street furniture in keeping with recent changes along High Street.

Councillor Terry Evans, Wrexham Council’s Lead Member for Environment, said: “We’re delighted this scheme will come to fruition in 2026, as it promises to provide real benefits for people who want to walk, cycle and wheel their way between the train station and the city centre.

“We’re here to answer your questions and listen to any concerns you might have, so please come and see us at one of the public drop-in sessions.”

There are two sessions, and council officers will be available to talk through details and answer questions.

Drop-in sessions – when and where?

  • Tuesday, December 2 – 9-11am at Tŷ Pawb LL13 8BB
  • Friday, December 12 – 3.30-5.30pm at Tŷ Pawb LL13 8BB
