A milestone birthday for Wrexham’s popular art spaceUndegun comes to Tŷ PawbWhat to look out for this week

Originally referred to as ‘Baggy Space’, Tŷ Pawb is introducing an ongoing series of unspecified activity that is to be known as ‘Urgencies’.

This series will serve to respond to current concerns of our community, both within the users of Tŷ Pawb and further afield.

A milestone birthday for Wrexham’s popular art space

The first in this series is dedicated to UnDegUn Art Space, to acknowledge and celebrate the crucial role that Undegun plays in Wrexham’s cultural landscape.

This July, UnDegUn will have been active for 5 years, an impressive lifespan for a ‘pop-up’ project!

Established in 2013 in a vacant sports shop on Regent Street, with the support of Leeds-based charity East Street Arts, UnDegUn offers studio spaces to many local artists as well as exhibition and performance spaces. The larger spaces regularly play host to popular local community groups such as Girls Who Make and Voicebox.

Undegun comes to Tŷ Pawb

For their week-long residency, UnDegUn will showcase their studio members as well a number of the community groups who use their space. There will be activities taking place every day for all to get involved with.

As well as celebrating their first five years of activity, the residency serves to represent a desire from Wrexham’s arts community to be able to support each other more effectively.

Jo Marsh, Creative Director for Tŷ Pawb and Arts Lead for Wrexham County Borough Council, says: “UnDegUn is a credit to Wrexham and indicative of the rapidly developing creative community in our town. We hope that by offering the organisation and their users the platform to showcase their work will both encourage more people to visit them and more people to consider setting up their own similar projects.“

What to look out for this week

Undegun will be hosting a number of it’s regular activities at Tŷ Pawb this week, including:

  • Wednesday 6.30pm-7.30pm – ‘Girls Who Make’ – An organization & monthly event set up to support local female creatives. All types of makers welcome at this free event! Whether you are a beginner, a professional, a knitter, a baker, a painter! Come along to meet with like-minded ladies!
  • Thursday 2pm-4pm – ‘Conversation – How can we support each other?’ – An open discussion to find new ways for people of the different creative communities in Wrexham to help each other to make a successful career in the arts.
  • Friday 6pm – Voicebox at Tŷ Pawb – As UnDegUn fill  space temporarily, Voicebox look to get in on the act and add some sound to the venue –

    6.10-6.30 Nathaniel Ramsey
    6.40-7.00 Lianne Futia
    7.10-7.30 Ben Wilson
    7.40-8.00 Joey Vanzetti
