Pavement Licence fee waived to help local businesses

All hospitality businesses are closed at the moment due to Covid-19 restrictions but as we look to the months ahead we’re going to be doing all we can to support local businesses.

One of the ways we can do this is to waive the fees normally paid by businesses for a pavement licence, which means they can serve people outside safely. It’s an extension to what we did last year and many came forward and applied for and received their licence.

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead member for the economy and regeneration, said: “Businesses have had a really tough time since last March and they need our support. By offering these licences free we’re hoping to encourage them to increase the space they have for customers by using the pavement areas.

“As we approach the spring and summer months and lighter nights customers can look forward to a more cosmopolitan feel to their favourite restaurant, cafe or pub once they’re allowed to open and we’re hoping even more businesses take up the offer.”
