This month, Wrexham Council successfully prosecuted a member of the public for abandoning a vehicle in the county borough.
The resident of Wrexham didn’t attend court, but was ordered to pay a fine of £660, a court surcharge of £264 and costs of £346 after the offence was proven in his absence.
The car had been reported abandoned, so Wrexham Council took control of it, removed and then destroyed it after several attempts to contact the owner.
Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment, said: “This is the first time Wrexham Council has prosecuted for this type of offence and I’m glad that we were able to sort the issue and recoup the costs that had to be taken from public money.
“This shows that the council doesn’t take the issue of abandoned vehicles lightly and, if contact with the car owner fails, we will take the necessary steps.”
