Whether it’s building musical instruments you’re into, or if you’d like to get creative with lino printing, oil painting or using metal to build your own pieces, there’ll be something for you here!

  • Portffolio is the name of our arts development workshops. They are aimed at anyone aged 14-18 who has an interest in the arts.
  • Each workshops costs £20 and last for 2 days (10.30am-4.30pm).
  • During the sessions, our Portfolio artists will share their expertise and introduce new techniques and ideas.
  • The skills learned will support development and the personal portfolio of work towards Art and Design studies.

Tinplate workshop (with Andy Hazel) July 24 & 25

Learn how to cut up, beat and solder tinplate from old biscuit tins to make little metal insects, flowers, cars, ships or dinosaurs using simple hand tools.

Creating Paint like the old masters (with Wendy Connelly) July 31 & August 1

Grinding oil pigment and chalk. Looking at the history of oil paint to explore the possibilities of our handmade paints. From impasto painting and glazes we will test out various techniques on our own painting.

Photographic encaustic (with Pete Kelly & Tracy McGuiness-Kelly) August 7 & 8

An ancient fine art process encasing giclee prints in beeswax and resin.

Day 1: A visit to Artstop Marple to see the studios and art gallery of Pete and Tracy, including demos by both artists.

Day 2: At Ty Pawb making your encaustic image on a wooden board.

Lino print and book binding (with Fakrah Richardson) August 14 & 15

Looking at different cultures’ surface design patterns to learn how design repeat patterns. Following on to learn to carve into lino blocks and then print designed patterns on to fabric and paper ready to make into artists books.

3d construction and performance (with Guy Mayman & Paul R Jones) August 12 & 22

Build masks and musical instruments using collage techniques. Make a performance that will be documented by Datamosh. The footage captured during construction and performance will be edited so that each participant will have a short film to keep.
