Single Person Council Tax Discount Review

Wrexham Council will shortly be undertaking a review of all residents in receipt of a 25% single person discount on their council tax.

There are approximately 21,000 Wrexham residents in receipt of the discount and although most of them have a legitimate claim, there may be a minority who have either forgotten to inform the Council that they no longer require the discount, or have deliberately submitted a false claim.

The Councils partner, NEC Public services, will be issuing letters customers asking them to verify information via form or the online portal and would urge recipients to respond to the letter or face the possibility of having their discount removed and backdated.

Councillor Mark Pritchard, Lead Member for Finance and Performance, said “Wrexham Council is dedicated to protecting the public purse and detecting fraud and we would like to thank our residents for their on-going cooperation throughout this exercise.”
