“Great news”Thanks 🙂Bin reminders

This is the next step in our drive to get even better at recycling, particularly in regards to recycling food waste.

Some food for thought…how we’re getting better at recycling food waste
Some food for thought…how we’re getting better at recycling food waste

With weekly recycling collections of your food caddy, free caddy liners and not forgetting the free kitchen and kerbside caddy’s, now is a great time to start recycling food waste, if you’re not already doing so.

Since we started rolling out the free caddy liners in October, we’ve got steadily better, and in January 2019 we recycled 189.44 tonnes of food waste! This is compared to 170.68 tonnes in January 2018, which shows our good progress.

Another example of this progress is that from October 2017-January 2018, we recycled 610.15 tonnes, whereas from October 2018-January 2019, we recycled 653.72 tonnes (an increase of 7%).

But now we want to get even better, to help us reach our recycling target of 70% 🙂

If you need a new food caddy, you can order one – FOR FREE – on our website.

“Great news”

Cllr David A. Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, says: “It’s great news to hear the latest food recycling figures, which shows that the people of Wrexham are making use of the free caddy liners.

“More and more people are starting to recycle their food waste, but we know that we can do even better. There are a number of benefits to recycling your food waste and we want to encourage people to take advantage of these.”

Along with the environmental benefits, by recycling your food waste, you’re also freeing up valuable space in your black bin. It also helps to stop your bins from smelling from rotting food – remember your food caddy is emptied every week, your general waste isn’t!

So please love your leftovers and recycle them. Remember, we also want your out of date food as well, so please remove it from its packaging first, and recycle it in your caddy.

Don’t forget – if you’re running low on caddy liners, you can just tie an empty one to your caddy handle on your collection day and we’ll leave you a new roll…

Or, alternatively you can get them from our recycling centres…just speak to an attendant and ask them for another roll.

Thanks 🙂

Thank you to everyone in the county borough for helping us to improve our food waste recycling figures. Your continued support for Wrexham’s recycling scheme is making a huge difference.

Cllr Bithell adds: “A big thanks to the people of Wrexham to help us reach these figures. And here’s to even better results in the coming months.”

Let’s help Wrexham become the best in Wales!
