In partnership with Flintshire County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council and Tŷ Pawb, Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam has organised a whole week full of virtual celebrations to celebrate St. David’s Day 2021 between March 1 and March 5.

The celebrations might be a bit different but we hope that they will reflect the fact that although we are all apart this year we can still come together virtually to safely celebrate Wales’ Patron Saint this year. There’ll be something for everyone and,  remembering to follow Welsh Government Covid-19 guidelines at all times, you can take part in various ways:

Parade

Send video clips of your family, friends, colleagues or society parading.

Pass the Flag

Send video clips of people passing the Welsh flag by catching it on their right hand side and throwing it to their left.

“Who was St. David?”

Send a video clip of you or a family member answering the question above. Keep your answers as short and sweet as possible.

Happy St. David’s Day

Send a video of yourselves wishing a “Happy St. David’s” Day in Welsh, English or in any other language that you may speak.

A virtual Eisteddfod will also be held during the week with a number of competitions for the community:

Cooking with locally sourced ingredients

Send a picture of your culinary masterpiece along with the recipe and a picture of the local ingredient/s.

Art

Send a picture of an item created from recycled materials on the theme ‘Welsh History’.

Photography

Send a photo on the theme ‘Nature’ or ‘The Beauty of Wales’.

Limerick

Write a limerick with the first line including the name ‘Dewi’.

Welsh Learners Competition

Write a Welsh dialogue on the theme ‘Mae’r Gymraeg i bawb’ (‘Welsh is for everyone’)

To take part in the celebrations or to compete in the Eisteddfod send your contributions/ items along with permission to share them on social media to maiwenn@menterfflintwrecsam.cymru by 5th February and note in which county you live. All the competition details and filming guidelines can be seen on Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam’s Facebook page.

To join the celebrations, use #DewiSiryFflint or #DewiWrecsam and remember to follow the Welsh Government Covid-19 guidelines at all times.

All videos, photos, and the Eisteddfod results along with a range of other activities will be shared on Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam’s social media platforms between March 1 and March 5.
