Wrexham’s Ageing Well event has been hailed a success after bringing together residents, community groups and support organisations for a positive celebration of ageing well in Wrexham.
The event took place at Ty Pawb on 12 February and welcomed a wide range of organisations offering friendly advice, information and support to older people, adults, families and carers.
More than 40 organisations attended, including North Wales Police Cyber Crime Team, AVOW, The Rainbow Foundation and Citizens Advice.
The event gave people the opportunity to meet local groups, find out about support available across Wrexham, enjoy relaxed conversations, and learn more about the work being delivered as part of Wrexham’s Ageing Well journey.
Rhian Bowen-Davies, Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, attended the event and praised the work taking place locally to support people to stay active, connected and involved in their communities.
Following the event, Rhian Bowen-Davies said “Everyone should feel incredibly proud of the Ageing Well event. It was a fantastic celebration with such a diverse range of organisations and community groups coming together to connect, collaborate, and showcase the brilliant work happening locally.”
“It was wonderful to see so many older people engaged in conversations, discovering the opportunities, activities and support available to help them live and age well. I’m truly grateful for the chance to be a part of it and to meet so many inspiring people.”
Rhian Bowen-Davies also visited the Wrexham Wellbeing Hub during her time in Wrexham, where she met staff, volunteers and people who use the service.
In a personal letter following the visit, she thanked one volunteer for sharing their experiences and praised their commitment to volunteering and the contribution they make as part of the Wellbeing Hub team.
She said their progress, positivity and impact were all things to be proud of and recognized the confidence they had built over time.
Councillor John Pritchard, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, Health and Wellbeing said “The success of the Ageing Well event shows the strength of partnership working in Wrexham. It was fantastic to see so many organisations coming together in one place to offer advice, support and opportunities for people to stay connected and independent.”
“Ageing Well is about more than services – it’s about community, confidence, friendship and making sure people know where to tun when they need support.”
Wrexham has now also officially achieved World Health Organization (WHO) Age-Friendly Community status as of 2026.
