Trading Standards assorted Tools Scam
SHARE

Trading Standards want to warn businesses about a tool sharpening scam that is happening in North Wales, close to Wrexham.

This is a fairly well known scam where businesses get cold called by males offering to sharpen tools for £3 or £4 each.

The men will take the tools away to be sharpened and when they return, the price will have changed to £3 or £4 per millimetre instead. A workshop owner was recently presented with a bill for more than £2,500.

When businesses have refused to pay the increased costs, the men have become threatening, aggressive and even violent in one case, Trading Standards says.

Trading Standards advise that if you’re visited by unknown people offering such services, don’t sign any paperwork and definitely don’t hand over any tools. If you’re being threatened, call the Police on 999.

If you want to complain or get any advice about goods or services you have bought please contact Citizens Advice Consumer Services on 03454 040506

Or, if you want to report something you think is suspicious, please contact either Citizens Advice Consumer Services on 03454 040506 or North Wales Police on 101
