Tour of Britain Women – parking and road closures information 6/7 June 2024

Wrexham will welcome the return of the Tour of Britain Women this June. Stage 2 will start and finish in Wrexham city centre on Friday 7th June 2024.

Please take note of the closures/restrictions below as you may be affected.The Wrexham Stage:

The start and finish line will both be located on Chester Street (outside Crown Buildings)

  • Cyclists are expected to leave at approx. 11:00am via Powell Road roundabout and onto Chester Road
  • Cyclists are expected to return at approx. 3:15pm via Tuttle Street, Yorke Street and onto Chester Street
  • The staged area will be on the Library car park
  • The Tour Village and additional stalls/activities will be on Llwyn Isaf

Crowd barriers will be placed along either side of the road from the Powell Road roundabout down to Tuttle Street.

Please take note of the closures/restrictions below as you may be affected.

Thursday 6th June

Eisteddfod Wrecsam 2025

There will be no on-street parking permitted on Chester Street from 6pm on Thursday 6th June. Traffic cones will be placed in parking bays. Chester Street will re-open after the race on Friday 7th June. Any vehicle left unattended will be removed from site and taken to a secure compound, where a fee will need to be paid for its release.

Friday 7th June, Event set-up on Chester Street

A full road closure will be in place from the Powell Road roundabout to Holt Street junction (Wingetts). Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Vehicle access will be permitted up Chester Street pedestrianised area (until 1pm) – however vehicles will only be permitted to turn right onto Holt Street.

City centre car parks

There will be no access to the following car parks via Chester Street:

  • Waterworld (Freedom Leisure)
  • Library
  • Guildhall (Members)
  • Crown Buildings/Wellbeing Hub
  • Memorial Hall

The following car parks can be accessed via Holt Street (managed by Traffic Management):

  • Crown Buildings/Wellbeing Hub staff (part of this car park will used by the event organisers)
  • Wrexham Courts
  • Memorial Hall

Please note: there will be no entry/exit permitted to the above between 2pm and 4pm when the cyclists are expected to return.

Part of the Waterworld long stay car park will be used for blue badge holders, also accessed via Holt Street (managed by Traffic Management)

St Giles car park will be closed from 1pm and will re-open when Tuttle Street re-opens (approx. 4:30pm)

Active travel and public transport into the city centre are being encouraged.

1pm – approx. 4:30pm

The road closure on Chester Street will be extended down to Tuttle Street. High Street will also be closed as there will be no access via Yorke Street.

2pm – approx. 4pm

The road closure on Holt Street will be extended from Wingetts down to the Home Bargains car park entrance. Market Street will also be closed from the Holt Street junction to the Ty Pawb entrance.

Cyclists are expected to return at approx. 3:15pm.  When the race has finished, event take down will begin. Roads will be re-opened once safe to do so.

It is appreciated this event will cause some inconvenience for residents and businesses within the city centre. However, we will endeavour to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.
