Over the last few months funding secured from UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, the Welsh Government Transforming Towns Fund, Safer Streets Fund and Active Travel Fund has allowed us to make High Street and Wrexham City Centre more inviting and pedestrian friendly.
From 14th April there will be no parking on High Street (further details on our blog) except for loading and unloading. This has meant that we have had to relocate the provision for disabled parking spaces.
However we now have 6 disabled spaces on Rhosddu Road (By Queens Square) and 6 on Holt Street (by Tŷ Pawb). This is equivalent to double the original provision of High Street disabled parking spaces and is in addition to the 12 spaces already available on Market Street car Park.
We also have 6 space at the Guildhall car park that becomes a public car park on the weekend.
Lead Member for Economy Cllr Nigel Williams Said: “Part of the High Street works include limiting access to the city centre for vehicles between 6am and 11.30 *other than for specific reasons listed on our website.
“Whilst this will take a little getting used to for regular drivers to the city centre, the benefits of traffic free city centre have been realised in many other cities and large towns, and we are keen to replicate their successes.”
