When it comes to voting in this year’s general election, you’ll need to know which constituency you live in.
Did you know that the constituency boundaries in the UK have changed?
It means that the MP that you are voting for in the general election on July 4, may be different to the one you thought.
Across Wrexham County Borough, there are three different constituencies – Wrexham, Clwyd East, and Montgomery and Glyndwr. Most wards fall within the Wrexham constituency, but there are a few that do not. You can find out if you live in Clywd East or Montgomery and Glyndwr on the council’s current elections and vacancies page.
Why have the boundaries changed?
Every so often, the four Boundary Commissions in the UK (Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland) take a look at the boundaries for each constituency to make sure that they all stay roughly the same size. The changes that we are seeing in the general election this year reflect rising and falling populations
Constituency boundaries are reviewed periodically to make sure that constituencies are all roughly a similar size and respect local ties between areas. The reviews recommend changes to constituencies to reflect rising and falling populations. You can find out more about the Boundary Commission’s review on their parliamentary constituencies webpage.
