It’s been an excellent start to 2021 for Wrexham Family Information Service (WFIS) as it recently found out it’s achieved the Families First Quality Award for Family Information Services.
Two virtual assessment days took place in November and December last year, where the assessor shadowed staff, spoke with families who have used the service, and partner organisations and services.
WFIS also submitted a comprehensive portfolio of evidence as part of the process, and staff were delighted to receive the good news in January.
“Really passionate about their work”
Cllr Andrew Atkinson, Lead Member for Children’s Services, said: “This is an incredibly well-deserved reward for all the excellent work Wrexham Family Information Services does across the county borough. The staff are really passionate about their work and genuinely care about the services they provide, so I’d like to say ‘well done’ to all of them. Everyone involved with WFIS can be incredibly proud of their achievement.”
Inclusive approach was evident
The assessor’s report particularly noted the skills, knowledge and expertise of the staff. An extract from the report reads: ‘A strengths-based, inclusive approach was evident in the way that staff engaged with service users and communicated respect, actively listening to them to explore and confirm their current situation and needs, and using a non-judgemental approach.
‘Information was provided without bias, and service users were actively involved in the decision-making process when exploring options and agreeing and reviewing the next steps. The team’s understanding of referral options is extensive.’
