Are you a community group, charity, social enterprise or school, looking to develop food related projects and activities?
If so, you can apply for a grant to help you deliver these!
Grants up to £4000 available
Wrexham Council on behalf of Wrexham Food Partnership are administering grants of up to £4000 for food projects that address the priority aims of ‘Education, Health and Nutrition’ and ‘Access to Affordable Healthy Food’.
Examples of what the grant could support
Successful applications for funding will depend on what you are able to offer. For example, we are looking for the following types of projects to support:
- Community cooking classes — low cost sessions teaching simple, healthy meals using affordable ingredients.
- Food waste reduction workshops — teaching batch cooking, preserving, and using leftovers.
- Cultural food exchange events — celebrating diverse cuisines while promoting healthy, low cost recipes.
- Partnerships with local authorities, the Health Board or other organisations — turning green spaces into growing areas or hosting mobile food hubs, promoting local healthy lifestyle initiatives.
- Community food hubs — community-based spaces and places offering low cost fresh produce, cooking classes, and food support services
- Growing Your Own Projects – urban growing, community gardens,
- Social supermarkets / community pantries — support the set up of community based food cupboards, food surplus donation schemes.
- Mobile Shops / Grocery vans — bringing affordable produce to estates, rural villages, or areas with limited shops.
- Healthy food box schemes — weekly veg boxes sourced from local growers at subsidised prices.
- Local producer markets — low cost stalls or pop up markets on housing estates, schools, workplaces or city centre venues
- Shared processing or storage facilities — community run kitchens or cold storage hubs that help small growers supply more affordable produce
- Food access projects — churches or mosques hosting community meals, food clubs, pantries, or community growing
We encourage organisations to be as creative as possible. If your project idea aligns with the aims of the partnership, please do not hesitate to submit it, even if it is not explicitly listed above.
Cllr John Pritchard, chair of cost of living member and officer working group, said: “This is an opportunity not to be missed for local organisations. Projects receiving this funding will help boost skills and access to lower cost nutritional food for many residents, in a variety of ways.”
