A Wrexham-based joinery manufacturer is set to grow its operations and improve efficiency following support through the Wrexham and Flintshire Investment Zone Programme.

Derwen Joinery Ltd has secured support to invest in new equipment that will help the company increase productivity, improve accuracy and expand its manufacturing capabilities.

Established by directors Jenny Roberts and Philip Roberts, Derwen Joinery produces high-quality timber windows, doors, staircases, fire doors and bespoke joinery products for residential, commercial and heritage projects across the UK. The company is also a BM TRADA-certified fire door manufacturer, reflecting its commitment to quality and safety.

The investment will provide new digital scanning technology, advanced woodworking machinery and specialist tooling, helping the business streamline production, reduce waste and take on more complex projects.

The project builds on Derwen Joinery’s recent investment in a 5-axis CNC machine, which has already helped modernise production processes and support workforce development.

The project was supported by Wrexham County Borough Council’s Business and Investment Team, which worked closely with the company to access funding through the Investment Zone Programme.

Jenny Roberts, Director of Derwen Joinery Ltd said, “This support represents an important step in our growth journey.

We would like to thank Wrexham County Borough Council and the Investment Zone Programme for recognising our ambition and supporting our continued investment in innovation and growth.

This investment will help us further modernise our operations, improve productivity, and expand the range of projects we can deliver, while continuing to create opportunities for skills development and sustainable growth from our Wrexham base.”

Councillor Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism at Wrexham County Borough Council said, “I would like to thank Philip and Jenny for taking the time to invite me to Derwen joinery and show me around the workshops.

It was great to see how they have managed to incorporate traditional craftsmanship yet embracing the use of modern technologies to enhance and build up their company.

With the assistance of funding from the investment zone and the purchase of a digital scanner, this will ensure they are head of the game with technology and give them an edge over their competitors helping the company to be more sustainable and expand.

I wish them every success for the future.”

The Wrexham and Flintshire Investment Zone Programme supports businesses to invest, grow and innovate, helping to create jobs, boost productivity and strengthen key sectors across the region.

For Derwen Joinery, this latest investment marks another important step in the company’s growth, helping to secure its future as a leading manufacturer of bespoke timber products while continuing to invest in sustainability, skills and innovation from its Wrexham base.
