A Wrexham-based packaging manufacturer is set to expand production, create new jobs and strengthen its sustainable manufacturing offer following support from the North Wales Investment Zone SME Grant Programme.
Lyan Packaging Supplies Ltd, trading as Icertech, has secured grant funding to support the design, manufacture and installation of a bespoke Multi-Pocket Water Ice Pack Production Machine at its facility on Wrexham Industrial Estate.
Established in 1988, Lyan Packaging Supplies operates as a packaging merchant, while its Icertech division specialises in temperature-controlled packaging solutions for the food, drink and pharmaceutical sectors. The company manufactures a range of chilled packaging products on-site in Wrexham.
Icertech has achieved sustained growth over the past decade and continues to invest in manufacturing innovation. Since introducing automated production in 2015, the company has expanded significantly, with manufacturing now accounting for around half of the division’s turnover. Six new full-time jobs were created during 2025.
The new machine will increase productivity by up to 40% and support plans to grow annual production from 12 million units in 2025 to 30 million units within five years. The business expects the investment to help double turnover and create 10 additional jobs over the same period.
The project builds on a wider programme of innovation, including an Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership focused on sustainability, productivity improvements supported through the Wrexham Business Grant, and digitalisation projects delivered through Wrexham ADAPTS.
Councillor Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism said, “It was a pleasure to visit Lyan packaging and have a tour of their factory.
It was great to see how the company has gone from strength to strength over the last few years with sustainable growth and their increase in staff.
With the help of funding from the investment zone that growth will continue into the future with the purchase of the new machine increasing productivity and further increasing the need for additional staff.
I wish them every success for the future.”
Adam Jones, Managing Director of Lyan Packaging Supplies Ltd / Icertech said, “Having traded as a business since 1988, it has never been a better time to be based in Wrexham.
The support we are receiving as a result of the investment zone, and the wider opportunities to utilise local expertise has been fantastic. We are so lucky to be based in Wrexham, with the excellent support that has been provided to us, and to be a part of a vibrant and flourishing business community.
I am personally really proud of what we have achieved as a business, and the success and growth potential for the area that I have grown up in”.
The Business and Investment Team at Wrexham Council has worked closely with the company to support its growth ambitions and secure investment that will strengthen the local economy.
By supporting ambitious businesses such as Lyan Packaging and Icertech, Wrexham Council continues to drive investment, innovation and job creation across the county borough.
