Does this sound like you?But I’ve never done this type of work before? Why I became a support worker…Open day

If so, this could be right up your street…as we have a number of positions for permanent and relief support workers.

But to do this job well, you’ll need bags of enthusiasm, bundles of passion and energy along with a real commitment to your work…

Does this sound like you?

Our support workers help people live as independently as possible in their own home.

They’re kind and caring, and provide support to people with learning, sensory and physical disabilities. And the bottom line is that they make a massive difference to a lot of lives.

It’s a really important job.

If you’re a caring person who could thrive with this responsibility, please read on…

But I’ve never done this type of work before?

Doesn’t matter! We have excellent training in place to get you up to speed. It’s more about you as an individual and your character.

You’ll need a Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 (or equivalent), so if you haven’t already got this, you’ll need to study for one within an agreed timescale if your application is successful.

Also, good communication skills are a must!

There’s great development opportunities and you’ll have support from dedicated managers.

To give you an even better look at what being a support worker entails, here is a bit of advice from one of our staff…

Why I became a support worker…

“Before this role I worked at a supermarket for seven years alongside my studies. After graduation, like many people, I was confused to exactly what I wanted to do.

“Initially of course it’s financial reasons that brought me to job hunting – but support work is different in the way that the job is in fact another person’s life. This quickly changed my perspective of ‘work’ – where it’s not actually about ‘me’ anymore.

“The best thing about it is that all the talents/hobbies/skills that I had built can be used creatively within support working. I have had a huge amount of support from my manager and have been able to set up a music group for adults with learning disabilities – an opportunity for people to join a band or just have a go on different instruments.

“It’s this ability to bring in my own hobbies and things that I am passionate about and seeing others benefiting from it that results in job satisfaction like I have never experienced.

“As for travelling, I‘ve had the opportunity to support a person to go on holiday – which was great fun for him and me!

“I asked to be inducted in to a few different houses which my manager helped me to do, so I have had the privilege of supporting lots of different people.

“Since starting support work I feel like a better person, the ability to support people on activities and to promote fun and excitement in another person’s day to day life is fantastic for me – it is the best job in the world.”

Open day

There’s an open day taking place at Tŷ Pawb on September 12. So if you would like even more information, head over between 10am and 2pm and you’ll be able to meet the team.
