Don’t get confused by plastic!

Which plastics? And give them a swill…A useful tip…It’s not just the kitchen!Let’s hit the target!

A recent article on BBC News revealed that a whopping 47% of people at home disagree about what should or shouldn’t go in their plastic recycling.

Part of the problem stems from the fact that there are many different types of plastic. But in Wrexham, most of these plastics can be recycled at the kerbside…so save the arguing for what to watch on TV that evening 😉

We want to make it a bit clearer as to which plastics can be recycled in Wrexham.

It’s not that scary…we promise!

THESE TWO SIMPLE STEPS COULD TURN YOU INTO A RECYCLING SUPERHERO…

Which plastics?

Basically any type of plastic bottles, all plastic food trays, plastic pots and plastic tubs (any colour) can be recycled at the kerbside in Wrexham. It’s as simple as that!

You can’t recycle plastic bags, cling film, bubble wrap or crisp packets at the kerbside.

And give them a swill…

Give all of these a swill in your used dishwater before you recycle them. All the items should be clean and free from any food or drink residue when you recycle them. If you’re unsure, watch our video 😉

A useful tip…

You can make things easier for us by removing the lids from plastic bottles. “How does this help?” we hear you say…

It means you can easily dispose of liquids and wash out the bottles. So before recycling, please remove the lids, wash and squash the bottles. This gives you more room in your recycling box. We can still recycle the lids, so just throw them in with the rest of your plastics and cans.

It’s not just the kitchen!

It’s fair to say that most of the plastics in our kitchens are getting recycled…

But don’t neglect the bathroom! The plastics in your bathroom can be recycled at the kerbside too…

So when you’ve finished with your shampoo bottles, shower gels, bathroom cleaners etc. don’t forget to recycle these. But with no residue please 🙂

Let’s hit the target!

The goal in Wales is for 70% of plastic waste to be recycled by 2025. Wrexham is getting better and better at recycling and we want to play our part in achieving this.

For more nationwide statistics, take a look at the BBC News article. It’s very interesting!

Hopefully you now have all the information you need to be fan-plastic at recycling. Feel free to pass your expertise onto others 😉
