Don’t forget to get your flu jab

Don't forget to get your flu jab
SHARE

It’s that time of year when the threat of “the flu” is never far away and we’re now encouraging everyone who is eligible to go and get their flu jab at their GP surgery.

It’s given on the NHS to:

  • anyone aged 65 and over
  • pregnant women
  • children and adults with an underlying health condition (such as long-term heart or respiratory disease)
  • children and adults with weakened immune systems
  • children in primary school
  • frontline health or social care workers

IF WE GET A BAD SETTLEMENT, WE’LL HAVE TO LOOK AT FURTHER CUTS. HAVE YOUR SAY…

Anyone in these risk groups is more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as pneumonia so it’s recommended that they have a flu vaccine every year to help protect them from the virus.

Primary school children get theirs in school and you should already be aware of this but those in other groups should make enquiries with their GP surgery.

“Please check if you’re eligible”

Cllr Joan Lowe, Lead Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “Having the flu jab can prevent serious complications for certain people which is why it’s widely available at GP surgeries. Please check if you’re eligible and if so check with your GP surgery what arrangements you have to make to get your free NHS flu jab.”
