Former Groves on the agenda for the next Executive Board

Executive Board meets tomorrow (Tuesday, February 11) and they’ve got a tight agenda to get through.

The Housing Revenue Account and Business Plan comes under the spotlight as members consider the rent for 2020/21 and the Business Plan.

And there’s good news for our tenants next year if the Business Plan goes ahead as its earmarks almost £52 million to continue improvements to our housing stock which should reach the Welsh Housing Quality Standard later this year.

This means that over £336 million will have been spent up to 2021 and this should peak in 2028 to £436 million.

They’ll also consider the Brymbo Heritage area as Brymbo Heritage Trust gets ready to deliver the first phase of its vision for the area.

The Trust’s proposals offer many opportunities for Wrexham and will contribute directly our Council Plan priorities of Economy, People and Place.

“The Groves also on the agenda”

“To approve the Heads of Terms for the future use of both the former Groves School Building and the adjoining playing field and to approve the actions required to complete the disposals.”

As a Part II item it’s not possible to disclose details of this item but we would like to reassure everyone that the report item will:

• Build on the proposals to relocate the WAFC training facility to the site of the former Groves School,

• Explore the opportunities for the Grade II listed building following the “Expressions of Interest” exercise undertaken last year.

There are no proposals in the report to demolish the building and we believe the proposals,if approved and if they are successful, will see a positive resolution to this site, which has remained empty for several years, that is acceptable to everyone concerned with its future use.
