Museums festival is back!

Ever wondered what museums have to offer?

Every year in Wales, the Museums Festival shows you what you can find in your local museum and gives you the chance to see and learn something new. This year it runs throughout half term, from October 28 to November 5.

In Wrexham, you can throw yourself into the Heat of the Battle, take on Superheroes or meet the experts to find out more about coins from Roman to modern times.

October 28 is your chance to meet the experts, and if you have any old coins that you want to find out more about then this is your chance! Running from 11am-3.30pm, Numismatics Say will be held at Wrexham Museum, booking in advance is a must so call 01978 297460 to secure your slot.

Cllr Hugh Jones, lead member for people, communities, partnerships, public protection and community safety said: “We hold some fantastic events in Wrexham Museum and we are delighted to be taking part in this year’s Welsh Museums Festival. If you have never visited the museum or are a regular visitor this is the perfect chance to discover what we have to offer. There really is something for everyone”

Throughout Museums Festival week, there are three exhibitions running at Wrexham Museum:

Superheroes: The Legends of Today celebrates Superman, Dr Who, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman as legends of their own era through the imagination of Wrexham-based illustrator, Neil Edwards.

The Heat of Battle, Wrexham Museum’s latest ‘Windows on the World’ exhibition, commemorates the story of the Allied campaign in Egypt and Palestine and highlights the distinguished role played by Welsh regiments on that front.

Finally, the Wrexham Tailor’s Quilt is among the finest examples of European folk art – the art made by ordinary people with often extraordinary talent and skill. The quilt, which was made in the town between 1842 and 1852, has not been on public display in Wrexham since 1933.

With so much going on, don’t miss out on learning what your museum offers you!
