Charge 20p to use public toilets at Trevor, Chirk and FroncysyllteCharge £1 for childcare at breakfast clubs before 8.20am

Should we charge people 20p a time to use public toilets in Trevor, Chirk and Froncysyllte?

Should parents who drop their children off at school breakfast clubs before 8.20am be asked to pay £1-a-day to help keep the service running?

If you have a view, you need to let us know.

Wrexham Council has to cut £13 million from its budget over the next two years.

But before we decide how to do this, we want to know what people think about the options on the table.

We’re consulting on various proposals, which we’ve broken down by department.

In this article, we’re going to focus on the ideas put forward by our Housing & Economy Department.

There are two proposals we want your views on…

TELL US HOW YOU THINK WE SHOULD SAVE £13M. FILL-IN THE QUESTIONNAIRE NOW.

Charge 20p to use public toilets at Trevor, Chirk and Froncysyllte

The council manages a number of public toilets across the county borough.

We’re proposing a charge of 20p at public toilets in Trevor, Chirk and Froncysyllte to cover the cost of cleaning and staffing.

We estimate this could generate an extra £5,000 a year to help us manage the facilities.

Tell us what you think by filling-in the questionnaire.

Charge £1 for childcare at breakfast clubs before 8.20am

The council runs a breakfast scheme at 50 primary schools. The aim is to provide a free, healthy breakfast for children before they start the school day.

The current cost of the service is £636,000.

Although we only need half-an-hour (8.20am-8.50am) to serve breakfasts, staff are employed for one hour in the morning – effectively providing free childcare for up to half-an-hour (7.50am-8.20am) before the breakfast session starts.

We’re proposing introducing a charge of £1 per-day per-child for parents keen to take advantage of the childcare element. So if a child arrives between 7.50am and 8.20am, there would be a charge of £1.

But if a child arrives after 8.20am, there would be no charge.

We think this could generate an extra £106,000 in 2018/19 and a further £52,000 in 2019/20.

The extra money would help make the service sustainable, and make it less expensive for the council to run.

What do you think?

By taking part in our consultation, your neighbour can have her say. And the guy down the road can have his say.

And you can have your say. So don’t miss the chance.

Fill-in our questionnaire now, and make sure you have your say on the proposals.
