It’s going to be a busy day in the city centre tomorrow as we gear up for the annual St David’s Day Parade.

  • St David’s Day Lantern Parade
  • New Visitor Information Centre

This year there will be entertainment from various artists outside the Guildhall to welcome the crowds from 12:00pm onwards and the parade will assemble at 12.45pm before starting at 1.00pm (sharp!) under the leadership of Band Cambria.

Missed bin collection? Let us know.

The parade will make its way through the town ending back at Queen’s Square where everyone will sing the National Anthem and Calon Lân together, led by Andy Hickie.

Don’t forget your banners, flags and whistles!

St David’s Day Lantern Parade

Thanks to funding from the City of Culture 2025 bid, along with support from the 3 Counties Connected Railway Partnership, Groundwork North Wales are excited to be hosting a Lantern Parade on 1 March 2023 in Wrexham City Centre.

The lantern parade will celebrate Welsh culture and heritage which is the reason the 3 Counties Connected Community rail partnership wanted to get involved as they are celebrating 175 years of the Chester /Wrexham/Shrewsbury/ Crewe Railway line which has played a vital part in Wrecsam’s industrial heritage.

It starts with street entertainment on Queens Square from 5.30 and a performance from Wrexham’s Choir for Good. The parade starts from Queens Square at 6pm, heading out along Queens Street, turning right up Regent Street, another right under the Argyle Street Arch, and returning to Queen’s Square.

If you’d like to attend the Lantern Parade, no booking is required but you are asked to register your interest through Eventbrite HERE.

New Visitor Information Centre

Whilst in the city why not take the opportunity to visit the new Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and meet some of the local producers on site that day, ranging from artisan coffee roasters through to fudge makers, a baker and much more!

The new Centre has triple the floorspace of the former Tourist Information Centre on Queen’s Square and an ethos centred around showcasing local food and drink produce and Welsh gifts along with being a place to find out about events, attractions and things to see and do across the whole county.

They’re also running a competition for the best dressed boy and girl in a Welsh costume. Each will be photographed and the entrants and two winners featured on VIC Facebook and Twitter pages later that week in the week.

The VIC is on Chester Street by the entrance to Tŷ Pawb so feel free to pop in and say hello.
