On Wednesday 28th June, an event was held at Ty Pawb to celebrate the work and successes of Flying Start childcare settings and practitioners across Wrexham.

Around 100 invitees attended the event, and were formally thanked by Deputy Mayor Beryl Blackmore, for their work in delivering the Flying Start childcare scheme.

The event was organised by the Wrexham Flying Start Team. Wrexham Flying Start is a Welsh Government funded programme for children aged from 0 years up until their 4th birthday and their parents/carers, who live in certain parts of Wrexham.

The aim of the programme is to help children to have the best possible start in life for their future growth and development. Parents/carers are given support to help them provide the most positive environment for their children’s wellbeing during their early years.

The Flying Start funded childcare scheme has recently undergone an expansion to reach more children and is set to further expand in the future, to ensure that all children in Wrexham can have up to 2.5 hours of funded childcare per day.

The event included a pop up photo exhibit showcasing children at play across Wrexham.

Lead member for education Cllr Phil Wynn said: “I would once again like to thank those who attended, as well as those who were not able to attend on their continued hard work to help give the young children of Wrexham the best possible start in life for their future growth and development.”

Deputy Mayor Cllr Beryl Blackmore said: “Having worked in the childcare sector for 60 years (having only retired this August), I know first-hand how special workers in the childcare sector are. “The Flying Start service is invaluable to parents, carers and its users, so it’s great to be able to thank all the professionals who facilitate this service for their hard work and dedication.”
