We’re gearing up for a Tree planting event to start at Bradley playing field, known locally as The Wauns, on 25th November to mark the start of National Tree Week.
This year’s National Tree Week is extra special as it marks the 50th anniversary of the famous ‘Plant a Tree in 73’ campaign – from which National Tree Week was born! Tree planting sessions will take place between 10-4pm on Saturday 25th November. Over 2000 trees will be planted across the site, funded by the Woodland Trust’s Emergency Tree Fund.
If you would like to join in we will be planting on the far side of the playing field, so please make your way over, pick up a spade and get stuck in!
The scheme will see the area being returned to pre-industry conditions by connecting and enhancing existing areas of trees on the field. This will improve wildlife corridors between habitats and support our carbon sequestration efforts.
Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead member of Environment said: “Following on from the successful planting season last year, we recognises the benefits of green infrastructure projects such as these and their important role in our response to the nature and climate emergency we are facing. “Tree planting projects build connectivity between existing habitats, improve ecosystem resilience as well as create inviting and enjoyable places to visit.”
This work also supports the vision of Wrexham Forest Partnership and our commitment to increase canopy cover throughout the county. Wrexham Forest Partnership is a collective group of organisations and landowners that have a passion for the conservation of trees and woodlands in Wrexham. Wrexham Forest Partnership are keen to gain public support for trees and woodlands in Wrexham and have created the Wrexham Woodland Pledge as a way to get the general public involved.
