Underage drinking using someone else’s ID? – It could cost you more than you think

The night time economy has always been a great way to socialise with friends, and meet new people in Wrexham.

However if you are underage and attempt to get into a pub or a club using either false or borrowed identification, door staff will retain the ID as well as turn you away.

The documents are then sent back to the issuing agencies informing them that they have been used fraudulently, with the legitimate owners of the ID needing to spend money or re-applying as well as having to answer some difficult questions.

Last year we processed 70 I.D. documents worth £2080.00. Between the 1st and 10th January this year we have already processed 11 ID documents worth a total of £280 in renewal costs to the correct owners

Roger Mapleson, Trading Standards and Licensing Lead, said, “We have been running the successful retention scheme since 2018. “Our message from this is loud and clear…..if you are discovered trying to get in to a licensed premises using I.D that belongs to someone else or is fake, it will be retained and you will be turned away.

“Using a false identity document is a serious matter, not to mention the potential costs and inconvenience to both parties if caught. Just don’t do it.”
