With ever increasing visitor numbers and footfall in the city centre, we are currently training security officers to provide a high visibility presence to assure visitors and to enforce the current Public Space Protection Order (PSPO).

Amongst some of its conditions, the PSPO:“A busy time in Wrexham”

Amongst some of its conditions, the PSPO:

  • Prohibits individuals consuming alcohol in the city centres public areas, or be in possession of an open container of alcohol.
  • Requires individuals to surrender or dispose of anything in the person’s possession believed to be alcohol or a container for alcohol.
  • Prohibits individuals behaving in a manner that is likely to cause harassment, alarm, nuisance or distress to others.

“A busy time in Wrexham”

Cllr Paul Roberts, Lead Member for Partnerships and Community Safety, said, “It’s going to be a busy time in Wrexham as we continue to experience higher visitor numbers and it’s important that everyone feels secure as they go about their business in the city centre.

“The increased patrols will complement the existing resources of Wrexham Police who regularly patrol the city centre.

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, said, “After listening to feedback from city centre businesses, I am pleased that we are introducing high visibility patrols like these will provide. We’re here to support everyone to make sure they enjoy their experience in the city centre.”

City Centre Inspector, Heidi Stokes, said, “The anti-social behaviour in our city is not welcomed. The increased patrols from WCBC to enforce the existing council led Public Space Protection Order is a great step-forward to tackle the issue.

“North Wales Police continue to support our colleagues in Wrexham County Borough Council to ensure the city centre is a welcoming and safe place to live, work and visit.”

The PSPO enforcement began on 7 September.
