To finish our series of videos with young carers in Wrexham supporting Carers Rights Day, we asked a young carer for some final thoughts about her life as a young carer.
WCD Young Carers believe all young carers are amazing and remind them of this if they forget. Their bespoke support includes fortnightly respite clubs for different age groups, trips and activities in the school holidays, one-to-one support during tough times, advocacy as well as awareness raising in schools/colleges and the local community.

Young carer: It’s great. People seem to think – I think a lot of people think – that young carers don’t have a childhood, or they seem to pity young carers.
Or they feel bad for them, and I know a lot of people don’t like that and I get it because we do have a childhood.
Our childhood might be a little bit harder at times but we still have a childhood.
We still do fun things. We get to do fun things because of organisations like WCD or Credu, but we have a childhood.
We’re still children, we’re young people, we still get to do fun stuff and we don’t need anybody’s pity.
Just because we have to do things that you don’t doesn’t mean we need for you to feel sorry for us.
We’re still human beings. A bit of empathy and understanding is great, but feeling sorry for us is definitely not something that we want at all.
