Do you vote by post in the Senedd and Local Government elections?

Content
Do I need to do this? Why do I need to do this? What happens if I don’t do this?

If you do, you may need to send a new example of your signature to be able to continue to vote in this way.

Do I need to do this?

If you last supplied a sample signature five years ago, this applies to you. You should have received a letter from Wrexham Council’s electoral services department in the post.

Why do I need to do this?

When you applied for your postal vote you gave a sample signature and your date of birth. These are called your ‘personal identifiers’ and are checked against the signature and date of birth on the postal vote. If they don’t match, you vote isn’t counted. This is to prevent someone else from using your vote.

Signatures can change over time so if you have a postal vote that is more than five years old, we are required by law to ask you for a fresh signature.

What happens if I don’t do this?

If we don’t receive a response by April 21, 2025, your postal vote will be cancelled. You will still be able to vote in person at a polling station or you may submit a new absent vote application form. You can apply for a new postal vote up to 11 working days before an election.

This only applies to your Senedd and Local Government election postal vote. It will not affect your postal vote for Police & Crime Commissioner and UK Parliamentary elections. We will write to you in 2025 about your postal vote for these elections.

If you require any further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Electoral Services on 01978 292020.
