Work has begun to improve an Active Travel link in the city centre.

Transport for Wales has been working with Wrexham Council, with funding from the Welsh Government’s Active Travel scheme, to upgrade a section of the city’s local walking and cycling network.

The path between Maesgwyn Road and Berse Road has benefitted from the following improvements:

  • the path has been resurfaced so it is smoother and more pleasant for walking or wheeling
  • the hedges and shrubs have been cut back so there is more room for movement
  • now the path is more open, the overhead lighting is better during the night time

Cllr David Bithell, lead member for housing and climate change, said: “This is just start of some much-needed work as part of the Active Travel scheme, which will make travelling to the city centre for work or leisure much easier.

“It is important for Active Travel links are improved in this part of the city as an effective way to ease existing parking problems at work places and at Wrexham Maelor Hopsital.”

Cllr Phil Wynn, local member for Brynyffynnon, said: “I am pleased to see that this route into the city centre has been improved. It is important to make sure that these active travel links make travelling into Wrexham as easy and safe as possible so this an excellent start to the project.”
