Last winter, Wrexham Council, with the support of the Wrexham Forest Partnership, planted over 9,000 trees across the county borough, enhancing vital woodland habitats and supporting green spaces for both people and wildlife.
Tree and woodlands provide a multitude of benefits for people and wildlife from improving air quality and reducing urban heat to supporting biodiversity and enhancing wellbeing . The positive impact of trees is far-reaching.
Supported by funding from Woodland Trust Emergency Tree Fund as well as Trees for Cities, Local Places for Nature and Shared Prosperity Fund, the planting programme focused on priority areas with low tree canopy cover and poor tree equity scores, ensuring that communities most in need benefit from the many advantages trees provide. Cllr Terry Evans, lead member for environmental services, said: “I am proud that we have successfully planted these 9,000 trees in areas around the county borough. Trees are at the heart of a thriving, resilient environment. By investing in our woodlands, we’re investing in healthier communities, richer habitats, and a greener future for Wrexham.”
The newly planted trees are part of a long-term effort to create a more connected and sustainable woodland network across the county. Woodlands are a priority habitat for Wales and every effort is being made to reverse the climate and nature emergency the country is facing. Planting trees through projects such as this supports local wildlife by increasing natural habitats, providing vital food and shelter for birds, insects, and mammals.

Looking after our trees is just as important as planting them. The Wrexham Forest Partnership is inviting local residents to volunteer and help care for these young trees over the coming years. Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or a complete beginner, everyone is welcome to get involved and make a difference.
