As we head towards the chillier climates of winter, our Street Scene team are working tirelessly to help keep the county borough’s roads safe.
Our fleet of gritters are primed and ready to head out on their rounds to ensure the community can travel safely on the roads.
Keeping an eye out
While our staff on the ground are out and about spreading the grit, we have members of the team keeping a watch over the latest weather forecasts.
This ensures that we can pre-empt any potential spells of icy conditions and be ready for its arrival. It allows us to have grit down ready to minimise the impact the ice has on the roads and pavements.
Ready for anything
With their routes planned, our gritters are ready any time to head out day or night. With the first signs of winter creeping in, you will start to see our crew more often on the roads.
Whilst we are doing everything we can to keep the roads safe for everyone, there are a few tips and tricks that you can do to keep yourself safe on the roads this winter.
During the more challenging conditions of winter, breakdowns and accidents are more common on the roads. Be safe and always allow extra time for journeys. Planning your route and keeping in mind roads that are likely to be cleared and gritted can really make a difference.

Councillor Terry Evans, Lead Member for Environmental Services said “As winter draws in and we all get ready for the festive period, we must remember that it is also the start of a very busy season, especially for road users. Our gritters are working extremely hard to ensure our roads are as safe as they can be for all our residents. I want to thank our team for their unwavering efforts”.
