EV charging upgrades to start in January

EV charging

Work is being carried out at St. George’s Crescent over the next few weeks to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) charging network.

Street works are scheduled to begin on January 12, 2026, with an expected duration of approximately three weeks.

During this period, there will be:

  • temporary lane closures
  • a short diversion route for road traffic
  • full pedestrian access maintained at all times
  • uninterrupted access to shops, restaurants, and local businesses

We will make every effort to minimise disruption and keep the area safe and accessible throughout the works.

These works are necessary to support the installation of two additional high-powered DC charging units at the St Georges Crescent car park. Once completed, this upgrade will increase footfall by encouraging more EV drivers to park, charge, and spend time within the local area, supporting the continued growth of nearby businesses.

As we move towards the ban on the sale of new internal combustion engine powered vehicles in 2030 and Hybrid vehicles in 2035, there are range of possible solutions for public EV charging and these chargepoints will further enhance our high quality and reliable network of public chargers.

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for housing and climate change, said: “Making the decision to switch to an EV means taking into account many factors – especially if you don’t have off-road parking. This work, along with the recent works in the city centre library car park, means that those who are choosing to switch are supported.

“Wrexham Council will continue to work to increase the EV charging network in the city centre and residential areas around the county borough.”
