As the big day is just around the corner, the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Tina Mannering, has a message of good cheer for the residents of Wrexham.

As she is set to complete her first half of her term in office, the Mayor takes a moment to reflect on all the wonderful engagements she has taken part in across our community.

A Christmas message

Hello one and all. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I can’t believe I am already half way through my term of office as Mayor of Wrexham.

Over the last few months, I can honestly say that it has been such an honour to serve all of you, the beating heart of our wonderful city. I have seen the pride of our community through a number of events and engagements I have had the privilege to attend.

I have met true stars that we have here in Wrexham and it has been very humbling to see all the good work that goes on. It is extremely difficult to narrow down a shortlist of events, as you can imagine, as it has been a very busy start to my time in the role.

I have paid visits to countless community groups that work tirelessly to support all walks of life in our area week in, week out. I have had the pleasure of meeting the school children from around the county borough both here at the Parlour and at the schools themselves. It has been delightful to chat with the future generations of Wrexham.

As you can imagine, it was a great honour to be a part of our Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday ceremonies here in the city centre. We have such a proud military history and to be involved in their events is a privilege indeed. Most recently, I joined the Armed Forces for their carol service which was a moving service indeed.

Back in June, the crew of HMS Dragon came to our city to mark their receipt of Freedom of the Borough with a parade which was a joy to be a part of. Celebrating such an honour with them was a memory I will cherish.

Of course, Wrexham had the honour of hosting the Eisteddfod this year and I was present for so many incredible events throughout the spectacular event. To share in the celebration of the Welsh language was a real treat.

During my term of office so far, I have held many fundraising events in aid of the Mayor’s charity fund. The events have all been so well supported by so many generous and kind people who have either attended or sponsored my events. I want to thank you all so very much for this support. My chosen charity this year is Dynamic, Wrexham. The funds raised will go towards a new mini bus for them so they can continue their incredible work.

When you take the position of Mayor of Wrexham, you really get to see the best we have to offer here. I get to see every aspect of what makes us who we are. I see a strong, united community that go to great lengths to help each other when someone is down.

I want to thank each and every one of you that I have had the pleasure to have met and worked with so far during my journey as Mayor. Thank you for not only having me join you at your events, but, for the invaluable and vital work you all do to keep our community ticking.

From the bottom of my heart, I mean it when I say, that you are all unsung heroes and things would not be the same without you all.

As we get ready for the festive period, it is good to stop and take time to reflect on the year we’ve had. Personally, I have taken stock on the last few months and I can say I have been blessed with a multitude of wonderful experiences thanks to you, the good people of Wrexham. I couldn’t have done it without you.

So, from me, to you, I hope you all have the most amazing Christmas filled with memories to cherish with those nearest and dearest to you. I hope the year ahead is filled with all the best and may it be a brilliant one for you all.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in 2026. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year one and all.

Councillor Tina Mannering
