Tŷ’r Ddraig is a TV production company founded and based in Wrexham.

Part of the global content powerhouse Banijay, they are proud to come from local, North-East Wales roots and believe passionately in producing the most entertaining and important stories from across Wales and the UK.

They produce factual content, fact-ent formats and documentaries for a UK and international audience.

Initially based at the rentable space at Tŷ Pawb the company have now moved to their new home at the Old Library Creative hub. In fact, Ty’r Ddraig were the first to business to move into the hub when it opened last year.

Company founder and Creative Director Ben Smith was born and raised in Wrexham and has 25 years of tv experience under his belt. Ben was keen on setting up business in north Wales, specifically Wrexham, so they could be at the heart of the growing the emerging creative community here.

The company have already produced several high profile shows for both the BBC and S4C, including

  • Lost and Found in the Lakes– the show follows a team of experts, including divers, detectorists, and magnet fishers, as they search for and attempt to reunite people with treasured possessions lost in the Lake District
  • Wild Reckoning – a 16 part BBC One and iPlayer series featuring Bear Grylls helping people mend strained relationships in the Welsh wilderness.
  • GISDA – a Welsh language documentary series commissioned for HANSH / S4C in 2025. It follows the lives of young, vulnerable and homeless people who receive support from the GISDA homeless charity in Northwest Wales.

Ben Smith, Creative Director of Ty’r Ddraig said “Our new production office at The Old Library is the perfect setting for creating and delivering exciting new factual formats and places us where we want to be – at the heart of Wrexham’s creative community. Currently we’re in production on 38 hours worth of new programming which we are proud to day will be delivered from our base here in the city”

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, Business and tourism at Wrexham Council said: “Over the past few years we have successfully secured external funding in order to improve the look and functionality of our developing city centre. “For this project we were given £4m in grant funding from the Transforming Towns Fund and Shared Prosperity Fund that allowed us to rejuvenate the building and underused asset into a Creative Hub that benefits the city, whilst ensuring it contributes towards the delivery of the city and the region’s strategic vision & objectives. “Ty’r Ddraig is exactly the type of organisation that we were looking to attract to the hub, so it’s great to see that they have now settled into the building and go from strength and form strong bonds with local creatives.
