Recently, the Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Jeremy Kent, attended a Welsh Blood Service donation session held at St Margaret’s Church in Wrexham.
Whilst there, he rolled up his sleeves and donated some blood to help towards the potentially lifesaving cause.
Blood donation can be the most rewarding and vital gift you can give to someone in need. In Wales alone, hospitals require 350 donations a day to support patients.
The Welsh Blood Service need donors from all walks of life to help keep up with the daily demand for supplies. One donation alone has the potential to save three patients. The process is quick, simple and completely safe. Anyone who fits this criteria is eligible to give blood, if you are:
- Between the age of 17 and 66 (for your first donation)
- Weigh over 7 stone 12 pounds (50kg)
- Healthy and not subject to medical exclusions
There are over five clinics that run donation sessions in Wrexham and the surrounding areas. You can find your nearest clinic and all the information you need to know about donating by heading over to the Welsh Blood Service website.
Speaking on his recent visit to the donation clinic, the Mayor said, “I would really like to encourage anybody thinking about giving a blood donation to come along and take part at one of your local clinics. It’s quick and easy and, for the few moments it takes for us donors, it could potentially give years to someone in need.
“It’s a worthwhile cause that our hospitals rely on to continue to make people in our community better. How wonderful it would be to know you have possibly helped save a life by your act of kindness.
“It gave me great pleasure to donate a few drops of blood today with the hope that it may go towards the vital treatment someone requires. Long may the success of all the team at the Welsh Blood Service and all the heroic volunteers continue”.
